Have you ever asked yourself the question "What is Soy Wax and why is it a kinder alternative?" When I was researching and planning my own journey, I knew there was a buzz about it, however I needed information and lots of it! In fact, at a recent market I was asked "why should I choose soy wax over paraffin wax and why is it different?" Thankfully, this was a question I was prepared for, as I had completed so much research before embarking on Galgorm Melts!
Firstly, let me start by saying soy wax is a natural resource. Soy wax is derived from soy beans, which are pressed to extract their oil. This, in turn, is refined and then hydrogenated. Soy bean plants come from the ground and therefore, this is a much more renewable and sustainable source for wax melt or candle making. Most soy beans are grown in South America, with Brazil being the largest grower. In 2021, soy beans were the most important crop in Brazil in terms of value, representing 46% of the country's agricultural production that year and are amongst the most established crops in the world! Significantly, the manufacturer of my specific brand of soy wax, has added soy beans to its list of key raw materials in better sourcing. Their aim is to achieve 100% verified deforestation-free supply chains for soy beans by 2025! This is one of the many reasons why we feel soy wax is a better alternative, for you and the environment.
You may now have gathered that soy wax in its raw form, contains nothing artificial, which makes in itself makes it a much better alternative to old-fashioned paraffin wax, which is made from petroleum oil, coal and shale and can produce harmful byproducts when burned or melted. Significantly, soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax. This means that soy wax burns cooler, will have a more sustained scent dispersion and will last longer than paraffin wax products. An extended wax melt life means that you can enjoy Galgorm Melts' luxurious scents for much longer, giving you extra value for your money!

To finish, I hope you have a better understanding of my initial question "What is Soy Wax and why is it a kinder alternative?" As I mention in about us, my research has inevitably signposted me on my own soy wax melt journey. I do hope you can join me!
Happy Melting xx
